So today is the first day of spring. I absolutely love this time of year, it is a time when all the flowers start to bloom, the daffodils are pretty much in full swing and the hope of summer is simmering on everyone’s lips.
Spring, for me, is opening the window when you wake up and feeling the every so lightly cool breeze through the crack and you hear the birds singing. Spring is walking in the woods with just a jumper and seeing the bluebells.
Winter is always so wet and dreary in the UK. Normally hardly any snow yet wind and rain in the plenty. This year it seems to have dragged on longer than it should have, yet, here we are today and Spring is finally here.
Here are some reasons why I love spring;
Spring is filled with hope. The hope of a good warm summer, the hope of a holiday, the hope of spending time with friends on a beach with wine! The hope that the flowers will scatter the fields with beauty and colour. The hope of a good lambing season, the hope of picnics and swims in the sea, the hope of a summer romance… the list is endless.
Spring is also the time of flourishing. Reaping the rewards from all your effort over the autumn and winter months, such as, the rhubarb which the English gardens are renowned for or the flowering of all those seeds you meticulously evenly spaced.
Spring brings lighter evenings and lighter earlier mornings. Driving home with no lights on because the sun is still up and that glass of Pimms is waiting for you on the decking.
Spring means gone are the freezing temperatures and harsh winds that wreak havoc on our skin and nails. Spring brings healthier looking skin and stronger nails. Summer’s heat hasn’t yet arrived to turn up the frizz factor either, so right now, everyone is happy. It can be tempting to skip moisturizing once you no longer feel like you need it, but remember that sun protection with a daily SPF of at least 15 is essential all year round.
There are just so many good things that happen this time of year and I am loving it. My smile is back on my face and it is here to stay! Happy first day of spring lovelies.
