I think it is really important to write these kind of posts every now and again. Not just for my readers but for myself too.
You see so many social media posts where one person says something negative and it spirals out of control. Comment after comment is made with either in agreement or fighting against what is being said causing more negativity. It is very rare you see a very negative post and someone comments on it something happy or cheery. We live in a world where people love to moan and shout and scream all behind a computer screen. People are always very quick to criticize but never quick to applaud.
Making someone else happy can make you happy. If you ‘hang around’ with horrible people then not only are you automatically categorized into that label but you also become that label. By doing what makes you happy and leaving the negativity behind you create a life that you can enjoy and be proud of. People around you are a reflection of yourself. Being kind and considerate will only make the world a happy place.
7 years ago I happened to find myself passing through Dubai when the most rude and vulgar child had the biggest tantrum right there in the street. I have never witnessed anything quite like it since. A lovely Emirati person stopped and knelt down to the child and asked what the problem appeared to be. The child responded with something along the lines of I want that food (pointing towards the shop). The gentleman said ‘Sometimes we can’t always have what we want. Did you know there are little boys like you who live here that do not have the pennies to shop in places like this.’ The boy looking shocked for a moment walked away. 2 minutes later his parents were in the shop buying him the food. When they got outside the boy ran after the man and gave me the food and said ‘please can I share my picnic with the little boys who live here’. Needless to say my heart melted.
This stranger didn’t have to speak to the child but he could see the embarrassment of the parents. Maybe he had been in a similar situation. 4 people he affected and 4 people will remember that moment for the rest of their lives. 4 people will remember that happiness.
Let people bring out the best in you.
Happiness, sadness, anger… they’re all contagious. Surround yourself with people who lift you up, not those that bring you down. Happiness is waking up an hour before your alarm and being able to roll over and go back to sleep, happiness is that bright bouquet of flowers, happiness is your family laughing and joking in the living room whilst you watch them play… happiness is wonderful… embrace it!
