Debenhams is one of the leading department stores across the uk. There over 180 locations across the uk and I happened to be at the very newest last Thursday at the Intu Shopping centre in Watford, London.
Before I go on don’t worry this is not going to be a Debenhams fact page (haha)! In fact, this is just about my experience and also about my FIRST EVER FACIAL… so keep reading.
Now Debenhams, for me, always seems to be a little bit of an older persons store when it comes to clothing and beauty. However, since the launch of the Stevenage store they are having a total overhaul and by god my mind has been changed.
Brands such as Dorothy Perkins, Miss Selfridge, Ted Baker and Juicy Couture line the isles and have brought that age misconception down from 40+, to cater to, in my opinion, the 18-30s too!
The store hosts a major beauty hall. You can now have your makeup done at one of the beauty stands, hair styled at Blow Ltd and a personal shopper for the store too (bookable) making it a total experience and getting you 100000% ready for a night out.
Debenhams have put all their effort into redesigning their stores to make shopping a more fun and enjoyable experience and they have mastered the art in this store.
A lot of people have said to me on social media… ‘it’s just Debenhams, what’s the hype for?’. To be honest the only real way of explaining it is by going there.
To make it a more fun experience they have so many beauty stands, the beauty club lounge and even a Pinkster Gin pop up which will be there until Christmas.
You have to try their Gin and Tonic, I could of stayed there all day.
Just to the right of the gin pop up is the one and only Perfumery.
If you are looking for the perfect place to try on a million different types of perfume this is it. It is laid out beautifully and caters to pretty much any taste.
I am a sucker for going up to perfume counters just to try the latest scents out and come away smelling like I have rolled in a field of flowers. I’m not the only one right?
The shelves are stacked high with pretty much all the perfume I could think of. I deliberately asked the counter assistant for ones I couldn’t see and she managed to find them- not to be a pain in the arse but to actually see how many they could actually produce.
There is a female section and a separate male section and also a table of bestsellers making it so easy to find what you want.
I love that this is placed next to the gin bar, I mean what better way to spend the day sipping a G&T whilst mulling over the Chanel or the Gucci?!
Right in the heart of the store is the Beauty Clubhouse.
The Beauty Clubhouse is for those who have a Beauty Card and are part of the online community. . You can earn points online and in store to spend on beauty products. You can sign up here. By being a card member you can benefit from not just the points and rewards but the online community and even earn points by reviewing products online!
DUN DUN DUN GAMECHANGER!!!
Right now you can get £10 worth of points when you spend £50 or more!
So to earn £5 you need 500 points and you get 3 points per £1 so the spend £50 to get £10 is amazing. Also (just an idea) if you’re doing a big order- split it in to increments of £50 and you can get the £10 of points each time…. You’re welcome!!
Remember there are always some ‘free gifts with purchase’ to be had and Christmas is coming up too…
So that’s the beauty card and clubhouse! I defo recommend getting a card as you can tell!
Even if you join just to be able to go behind that curtain is worth it. Every time I walked past I was like ‘ooo whats going on in there?’ or ‘ What are they doing now?’. From what I could see it didn’t seem too packed and was definitely catering for what looked like the VIP shoppers… I wanted a bit of that so obviously I now have a beauty card ha ha!
Just in front of the Clubhouse is the Mini Bar.
Debenhams have also listened and listened good and now have a Mini Bar. This is a stand full of travel size products and by god there is a HUGE selection. Just look.
From Benefit, to Kat Von D to Elemis… there are so many mini’s to choose from it is absolutely wonderful. They even do little mini urban decay palettes. Literally the cutest. I cannot rate the idea and the actual bar highly enough. I must have come away with at least 20 minis that will see me through the next few trips away.
This is one of the first Mini Bars in Debenhams and they seriously need to roll it out across them all! Usually I just to go Tesco to grab a small shampoo or whatever but this actually offers a selection. Normally you have maybe 2 or 3 to choose products to choose from in each category but not now. It is revolutionary!
Ok on Thursday I didn’t just go to look round the store I went and actually used some of the counters for a change. Whenever I go to any department store I kind of glaze past most of these stands in fear of being sold some extravagant product that I will never use. I wanted to set aside some time to go and actually talk to people and know more about certain regimes etc.
First stop was Elemis. Can I just start by showing you there Christmas gifts… I need them all. They are so beautifully presented.
I wasn’t lying right?
Anyway.. I headed over to Elemis and sat down to experience my first ever facial… no lie… 27 and this is my first one. I had read horror stories of people’s faces being bright red for days so I had always been nervous to experience one.
The team was absolutely wonderful and gave me a facial tailored to my face. They have a computer that takes a deep photo of your face and can tell if it’s dehydrated or acne prone or you have wrinkles coming… it’s quite depressing actually but in a good way as you then find out what you can do about it, so don’t worry, it’s not all doom and gloom.
I didn’t realise a face massage could be so refreshing.
Top marks to Elemis who patiently sat with me to go through about 20 of their products and how they would work for me and what they do! I will without a doubt be back soon.
Next I wanted to stop at Clarins because they are all about skincare and having heard what Elemis had to say I wanted to ask some questions about their products and their new serum.
It turns out their new Double serum, (of which I walked away with about a million samples), not only targets fine lines and wrinkles but adds firmness and attracts pores to make them look a million times better.
After talking to Elemis apparently I need to by concerned about the 3 deep wrinkle lines on my forehead (insert scowling face) so what better opportunity to bathe my head in this serum!
Georgia, the counter manager who is absolutely lovely, gave me an incredible hand massage and made my face back up as a facial obviously has to remove it.
I walked away looking better than when I originally walked in the store.
Face done, makeup done… 2 things left… hair and brows!
I had never heard of Blow Ltd. Maybe it’s because I live outside of London but the idea of going directly to one place that isn’t a hairdresser for a wash and blow dry is amazing. They also offer a service to come to your house too!!!!!!! I was like OMG, where has this been all my life?
The ladies here are amazing and I was privileged enough to be the first ever customer in this brand new store to have her hair washed in their basins.
They have a menu of various blow dry’s they have to offer and you can choose how you would like it styled. Similarly to a hairdresser they ask if you want various products in your hair to hold it in place which is great too. Using only GHD stylers and brushes, your hair is well and truly looked after.
What I loved most about it is that they have an entire corner of the store which means you haven’t got people walking around you the whole time, you get the feel of being in a separate store and well and truly looked after.
Whilst my lovely stylist sorted my barnet I had a very large glass of Prosecco. Talk about feeling privileged.
I left Blow feeling like I was ready to conquer the world!
The last stand I headed over to was Benefit. I recently had to cancel my wax appointment due to a teething baby and these slugs needed some TLC.
I was a little late for my appointment which was totally my fault from talking too much in Blow, however, they were so accommodating and fitted me in straight, albeit super busy.
Now now now you all know how much I bang on about my incredibly light brows and how I hate them so. Well, Benefit sat me down and said the lightest they go is light brown. The horror swept over me and me being me was too polite to say ‘oh don’t worry light brown is too dark but thank you anyway.’
So there I sat in a mild sweaty panic that my blonde slugs were actually going to become prominent features.
After just one minute of dye being applied she took it off and handed me a mirror.
I didn’t want to look.
Dear God she had done them perfectly. By only putting them on for a minute they had been made just visible and not an eyesaw. Next the wax which was done beautifully also.
A little concealer to hide the pinkness and I was good to go.
That is just 4 of the stands at Debenhams and It took me a whole afternoon to get round those. There are still tonnes I didn’t even get a chance to speak too such as Armani, Smashbox, Urban decay (have you seen their new Cherry palette O.M.G!), Dior, Estee Lauder.. the list goes on.
A massive massive thank you to Debenhams, especially Richa who helped me have such a wonderful day and to all the companies including Elemis, Clarins, Blow Ltd and Benefit who accommodated me into their extremely busy day to make me feel like a Queen! Oh and also to all the companies who gave me this gorgeous goodie bag. I am so excited to try all the products. There will be a review of those coming very soon!
If you have a chance to go to the STUNNING Watford store in the Intu Shopping Centre I strongly recommend it. The fresh, up to date, feel with all the various counters is just next to none! It truly is the whole package!
