What happened when I tried to do two weeks of Slim Fast Shakes?

So Evelyn’s 21 months old, I still have a stone of baby weight I want to loose and I have PCOS. Baby weight is one of the hardest types of weight I’ve ever had to lose and since having PCOS I’ve found it even harder.

I want to start by saying I only had 1 slimfast shake a day. That’s because the sugar content is really high and it can aggrivate my PCOS. A high sugar diet is not good for anyone, especially people with this condition, hence why I didn’t want to do it for too long. This is one of the main reasons why on my diet journey I have stayed away from Slim Fast to be honest. Just one Strawberry shake made with skimmed milk contains 20.9g of sugar! They say a woman should have no more than 27g of sugar a day so if you had just 2 cups of tea with 1 spoonful of sugar in each you’re already over. Yep, its the harsh reality of living in the age we do!

I know that once I am where I want to be weight wise, I will be trying to change my diet to one that is essentially more plant based with next to no or very little sugar.
I know you’re probably saying, why wait, this diet is perfect for now. But to be frank, I have tried and my willpower hinders me from it. I end up having one cheat day then the whole diet goes out the window. I am the epitome of ‘I’ll start again Monday’, but I need to break that cycle.
I felt more determined this time.

So I started my diet on 4th November.

On the first week I managed to stick to it quite well.
For breakfast I would have a greek yoghurt with lemon. Snack time I would have an apple. Lunch would be a shake with semi-skimmed milk, snack a protein nut bar and then I would have a dinner that everyone in the house would be having, although I did try and keep those reasonably healthy such as jacket potatoes with beans and salad.
On the first week I felt my moods were quite erratic and I must admit I was bloody hungry which probably was why I was so up and down. I know that eat this much wasn’t necessarily great so I knew that on week 2 I would need to change a little. In this first week I managed to lose half a lbs. Yep half a pound. I understand I wasn’t doing it entirely right but I was so disheartened.

I really really didn’t know whether to carry it on for the second week at all. Maybe ifs had salads for lunch it would be better? something needed to change because whatever I was or wasn’t doing was not working. However, I still had half a tub of slim fast left and at £7.25 a tub I wasn’t going to just throw it in the bin.

Almost begrudgingly, I decided to carry on. I needed to incorporate exercise too so I planned on doing 3 sessions on the weights and exercise bike that week in a hope that would help. If I didn’t lose another lb, that was it I was giving up with the shakes.

I think with this particular type of diet is all about calorie counting. So I need to change things up a bit with regards to my food too.
Week 2’s diet I have listed out below.

Monday
Breakfast : 2 poached Eggs on 1 slice of toast + cup of tea + pint of water
Snack: Was still full up from breakfast
Lunch: SlimFast Shake + Caffeine Free Diet Coke
Snack: Pink Lady Apple
Dinner: Home made Slow Cooker Vegetable Curry (Coconut milk, curry paste, Butternut squash, yellow pepper, green pepper, Peas, 1/2 potato and broccoli with  few herbs and spices.) Phil had rice with his but I just had 2 plain poppadoms with mine.
Food Calories: 1214 kcal

Throughout the day I consumed a total of 3L of water too.

Oddly on Tuesday morning I weighed myself and I had lost another 2 lbs. So either what I was doing actually was right or Mondays was right. Pfft. I decided to carry on with the new regime for another few days and see where it took me.

Tuesday
Breakfast: 2 poached Eggs on 1 slice of toast + cup of tea + pint of water
Snack: Was still full up from breakfast
Lunch: SlimFast Shake + Caffeine Free Diet Coke
Snack: Pink Lady Apple
Dinner: Jacket Potato with beans and salad with a balsamic glaze (only a little though).

On Wednesday through to Friday I was so incredibly hungry I couldn’t face the shakes. Then on Friday I had some news from the doctor which meant I shouldn’t really carry on with it.

I think the only slim fast shake that actually tastes nice is the strawberry. The chocolate is faaarrr too sweet for me and the banana actually contains more sugar than the strawberry! Yep, seriously .

So that main question; how was it and would I do it again? It was ok, reasonably easy to follow and ok tasting. Would I do it again though? No I would not. I think this one Is not for me. I know I didn’t do it entirely right but I thought id lose at least a few lb’s a week. I have done SlimFast previously this year a couple of times and had these exact same results.
It is probably my own fault but I think this one isn’t for me.
